The writer whom I admire the most is Mark Twain. One of his books, which I like the most, is Huckleberry Finn.

Huckleberry Finn, the main character, is the best friend of Tom Sawyer. Huck’s father treats him cruelly. Huck runs away from his father and travels an island with Tom Sawyer. After the adventure, Huck becomes free as his father dies.

I like Twain’s way of writing stories because exciting and amazing adventures are contained.

1. Contain good conflicts.

The necessary things which a story must contain is conflicts. To write an interesting story, the conflicts in the story should be clear because good conflicts makes readers feel tense.

2. Describe fully.

You should describe things happening in the story fully. It is because readers can understand easily how the story is going. If the story is easy to understand and read, reading the story is fun.

3. Make smooth connections.

There should be smooth and natural connections between paragraphs. If the paragraphs are not relevant to each other, the story is boring because the flow of the story becomes unnatural.

In my perfect world, school is particularly different.

There are no tests, no homework and no report cards in school. We don’t have to go to school early at morning, but we are just to go to school at about 10 o’clock. We don’t have to leave school late, but we are just to leave school at about 2 o’clock. We are taking only five subjects. There is no program such as CAS, so we don’t have to participate in any activities.

If only all the schools in the worlds were like this, I wouldn’t have any complains.

50 Great Short Stories edited by Milton Crane is another short story collection I have read. As the title tells you, there are really 50 stories in this book. I will introduce two of the stories to you.

The Garden Party is written by Katherine Mansfield. The main character is a girl in an upper class. She hears about a lower class girl who died while she was preparing for going to a garden party. The upper class girl goes to the garden party and then realizes the issue of discrimination between the two classes.

The Lottery is written by Shirley Jackson. I like this story the most. In the story, a girl wins the lottery. However, instead of getting a prize, she gets hit by stones that are thrown by children. They might be jealous of her.

The Garden Party made me realize how class distinction was severe. The Lottery made me realize that jealousy can cause a big mischief. I learned that this collection usually contains stories which are for teaching lessons or showing how the life was when these stories were written.

This is a short story collection that I would recommend to other students. This is because they are well-written and get the readers attention from the start. The themes are things like jealousy and class distinction. In schools, jealousy between students is often a problem. Although, class distinction may not be really a problem, sometimes some students might make others feel inferior. There are no humorous stories in this collection, but they make you think about interesting and important things.

The short story collection I have read is Stories From Asia. As the title tells us, the stories in this book are all written by Asian writers. I will introduce two of the stories.

The Bride is written by Suniti Namjoshi. It is about a perfect prince trying to marry a perfect woman. However, he does not choose the women who are introduced to be perfect. So he decides to choose from the other women.

The Blue Donkey is written by the same author. There is a blue donkey and people want to change its color. At the end of argument, however, they decide not to change its color.

The Bride made me realize that perfectness is not only good. The Blue Donkey made me realize that appearance is not a very important thing. In conclusion, I learned that short stories are usually for teaching lessons.

By reading this short stories, I learned that it is important to get the reader’s attention right from the beginning. I knew that writting introduction is important, but these stories showed me they have to be interesting from the start. I noticed that writing a short story is maybe different to writing a book. The writer has to get everything into a shorter format: character descriptions, important parts of the plot and the climax at the end. The short story writer has to plan out their work very carefully so that it still stays in a short story format.

The best story in Stories From Asia was The Bride.

There was a perfect prince.  Because he was perfect, he was going to marry the best lady. So a contest for the best women was held. Although the winners were presented to the prince, he did not choose because they had lack of womanly qualities. The king said that he could choose from the women who did not compete.

This story impressed me a lot because it showed me that perfectness is not only good.

I chat with a woman by messenger.

She is very humorous and her way of talking is very appealing!

I promise her to meet.

When I meet her, she is beautiful as her way of speaking!

She and I become a pair of excellent lovers.

Some people haved no aims in their life. There are not many problems although you don’t have any aims.

However, if you have aims in your life, your life will be more interesting.

If I have a superpower, I will not use it for myself but the weakers. I cannot stand people who bullys the weakers. I wish all the bad people in the world disappear. I do not think the reason why superpowers should exist is because they are only for their owners. I think superpowers need to be used for helping the weakers. I will use my superpower for conquering bad people. If I conquer all the bad guys who bully the weakers in the world by using my superpower, I will be exceedingly happy.

The most important thing which makes a story interesting is a ‘conflict’.
